An introduction to the diseases of forest and amenity trees in New Zealand

By G.S. Ridley and M.A. Dick

This book has developed from notes prepared for teaching courses on forest and amenity tree diseases for tree health surveillance staff in government and industry, and is a basic introduction. Tree health surveillance in New Zealand concentrates on exotic plantation species and in particular Pinus radiata. However, knowledge of the diseases of some amenity and native species, especially in the urban landscape, is needed by all those whio may be required to carry out surveys for new disease introductions. This book would also be useful to arborists and others responsible for the monitoring of tree health. The book falls into two sections: the first introduces basic concepts in the study of plants diseases and fungal biology, the second outlines a selection of tree diseases. This book is not a fungicide manual and simply notes reports of treatments that have been tried.

Cyclaneusma needle cast in New Zealand

By L.S. Bulman and P.D. Gadgil

This bulletin brings together all the work carried out on Cyclaneusma needle-cast in New Zealand, mainly by the Forest Health group. Part I deals with the biology of the fungus - knowledge of which is fundamental to planning control strategies. Part II comprises chapters on distribution and severity of the needle-cast in different regions of New Zealand, its effect on volume growth, and the economic implications of the disease. Part III is concerned with methods of controlling the disease, including silvicultural techniques. A Glossary and Index are provided.

Field guide to common pests, diseases, and other disorders of radiata pine in New Zealand.

By S. Chapman

This guide describes the common disorders of radiata pine plantations which, unless otherwise stated, occur throughout the whole of New Zealand. It is concerned primarily with damage caused by pests, diseases, and the environmental factors, and the key features which aid their identification. Care should be taken when diagnosing disorders of radiata pine as some agents cause similar symptoms, and more than one agent may be present on a tree. The guide begins with a list of symptoms and their possible causes.
